Basic Attention Token

While there are a lot of options out there for buying BAT, shorting is a different story. Luckily for us here in Australia, we do have a few crypto brokers and exchanges that allow for CFDs and shorting.

One of those brokers is eToro, which we’ll be using for this guide. Let’s get started!

How to Short Basic Attention Token in Australia

A quick recap first on what shorting actually is: The main objective of shorting or short selling is to make a profit (of course). The idea is to sell a stock/cryptocurrency hoping it will drop in value so you can buy it back later for cheaper, thus creating a net profit.

Shorting Basic Attention Token can be done in 4 easy steps:

  1. Choose a crypto broker or exchange
  2. Create an account
  3. Fund your account
  4. Short Basic Attention Token

1. Choose a crypto exchange

As mentioned before, for this guide we’ll be using eToro as they offer the ability to short the most common cryptocurrencies.

You can, of course, use any other crypto broker to follow along, they all work very similarly.

2. Create an account on the cryptocurrency exchange

Let’s start with just signing up with eToro.

The sign-up process is very quick and easy, as is the verification that needs to be completed afterwards so you can get started.

3. Funding your account

Next is funding your account. You have several options when it comes to depositing AUD into your eToro Account. These include a bank transfer, credit card, debit card, PayPal, and more.

4. Short Basic Attention Token

Now for the actual shorting:

  • Starting off at the search bar at the top, find Basic Attention Token by entering the name or symbol.
  • Then on the crypto page/section, on the right side, hit the TRADE button to enter the trading interface.
  • At the top of the trading interface: Click on sell to short sell the stock.
  • Enter the amount for which you want to sell Basic Attention Token and click on “Open Trade”.

Once you’re ready to close the trade, hopefully when the value of Basic Attention Token has dropped, go to your Portfolio, find the Basic Attention Token trade, and click on the red cross to close the trade.

If your assumption/prediction was right, then the profit will be added to your account after closing the trade. If you were wrong on the other hand, you’ll incur a loss which will be debited from your eToro account.

Congratulations, now you know how to short Basic Attention Token!

About Basic Attention Token

The most common question about Basic Attention Token (BAT), is "Why would Brave need a token (BAT), for this?" Brave's unconventional, but respectful approach towards digital advertising is the answer. Brave's digital advertisements are privacy-centric. They do not track users and you can only opt in to see them if that is what you wish.

This is where the Basic Attention token (BAT), comes in. It was built on Ethereum blockchain and embedded into Brave browser. This is an incentive token that rewards all members of the ecosystem, including the advertiser, publisher, and user.

Brave Inc. has issued Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) to their Brave Web Browser.

Brave Web Browser, founded in 2015 by Brendan Eich (creator JavaScript and former CEO and COO of Mozilla Corporation), and Brian Bondy (CTO). Brave browser's key feature, ad- and tracker blocking, was launched in 2016.

Eich and Bondy co-created Basic Attention Token. The utility token was integrated into Firefox's browser on May 31, 2017. It raised $35 Million.

Brave browser's key value proposition is its privacy-centric advertisement which doesn't track users and can only be opted-in. Brave browser users can opt into Brave ads and are rewarded with BAT. Publishers receive a percentage of the BAT if their users are loyal. Advertisers can also get better returns by reaching quality audiences and attracting more attention.

Users who have BAT may also opt to donate their tokens automatically to publishers based upon their time spent on the site or to tip them manually. Brave is known to have been used by The Washington Post, Vice and The Guardian among others.

BAT is challenging the status of paid advertising by proposing an alternative. Your browsing behavior and privacy are being tracked online by cookies, all for the purpose of increasing ad revenue. BAT is an innovative approach that gives back power to users and benefits publishers.

As internet users become more conscious of privacy, digital advertising is likely to be disrupted. As users avoid selling their personal information to advertising companies, Basic Attention Token might play a major role in filling this revenue gap.
